Pastor relates to youngsters while readying for church growth

By SHANE SNIDER, STAFF WRITER

WENDELL — Doug Lain likes to catch teens off guard with a quote from the movie, “Napolean Dynamite.” Some react with surprise that the 34 -year-old head pastor at Wendell United Methodist would watch offbeat comedies that appeal to younger audiences. FoodLion
WUMC and Food Lion

Did you know that shopping at Food Lion can actually put money in the church coffers? Food Lion stores have a Shop & Share program which WUMC has participated in the past, and Doug says it’s time to get the word out to some of the newer members—and to remind some of the longer term ones! If you register your MVP card online at www.foodlion.com , whenever you shop at a Food Lion store and use your MVP card, a portion of what you spend will come back to WUMC.

Will it retire our debt? I wish! But considering that Food Lion is one of the few options we have in this neck of the woods for our day-to-day grocery needs, whatever percentage it is will just be “found money” when Food lion sends out the quarterly checks.

Churches and shoppers both have to reregister every fall, so go online and register your MVP card today, then go food shopping!
